Sand, a diverse natural granular material is found everywhere - from seashores to desert dunes and even in places far away from its natural habitat on beaches and desert terrains. It is often placed in bags to effectively prevent flood or water damage in flood-plagued areas. Film and construction companies rely on sand to hold down heavy equipment. The latter also uses sandbags in their commercial and residential construction projects. Athletes and personal trainers use sandbags for strength training and endurance workouts. Landscapers rely on sand for various landscaping projects, including leveling the space between pavers, as a way to prevent weed growth and to protect topsoil from water loss.
An overwhelming abundance of sand, along with small rock particles, recently found its way into the
outdoor waste dumpster of a West Saint Paul, Minnesota
restaurant. While there is speculation that the sand came from a local landscaping company, the culprit of this issue remains unknown. One element that does remain certain is that the restaurant was left having to take care of this matter.
Although the waste container at the Saint Paul restaurant was not overflowing, it did weigh considerably more than the allotted 1-ton maximum weight with the vast amount of sand inside weighing it down. This resulted in the normal hauler refusing to make a standard pickup, due to weight restrictions, noted Adi Andrews, Escalations and Sales Specialist, Waste Cost Solutions.
Fortunately, the hauler was able to procure a third party company, who evacuated the sand and small rock particles out of the dumpster. While the sand evacuation did come at a considerable cost to the restaurant, the establishment did not experience any overage costs, since the dumpster was emptied just prior to when the sand was dumped in it, added Andrews.
